How To Add Context and Insights to Your Design in Figflow

There’s a moment in every designer’s process when the visuals are there, the layout is crisp, and the interactions make sense—but something still feels missing. It’s like looking at a stunning photograph without knowing the story behind it. Who are these people in the image? What’s happening just outside the frame? What led up to this exact moment?
Design, at its core, is storytelling. And yet, so often, our designs exist in isolation—static frames with no context, stripped of the richness that makes them meaningful. I’ve been there. I’ve handed over beautiful screens only to watch them be misinterpreted, disconnected from the deeper problems they were meant to solve. That’s why we built Insights in Figflow: to bridge the gap between the design and the story behind it.
What Are Insights?
You have your design ready—the colors are right, the typography sings, and the layout flows effortlessly. But here’s the thing: a single screen rarely tells the whole story.
Imagine designing an onboarding flow. One screen introduces the product, another asks for user input, and yet another guides them to their first action. Individually, they make sense, but together, they form an experience. What if you could tell the AI exactly how these screens fit together?
That’s what Insights does. It lets you add extra layers of meaning to your designs, helping AI understand not just what a screen looks like, but what role it plays in the bigger picture. You can highlight key interactions, clarify feature details, and—most importantly—connect specific personas to design frames.
Why does that matter? Because a checkout screen for a first-time buyer is fundamentally different from one for a returning customer. A navigation bar for a Gen Z audience might need different priorities than one designed for busy professionals. By linking personas directly to design frames, you’re teaching the AI to think more like you—to see not just pixels, but people.
How Can You Add Insights?
We wanted to make adding Insights feel natural—something that enhances your workflow rather than interrupting it.
Select your designs – Once you’re ready to translate your designs into user stories, choose the specific frames you want to refine.
Hover over a design – You’ll see an option to Add Insights. Click it.
Enter contextual details – A pop-up modal appears where you can describe the screen’s role, its key interactions, or any specific focus areas for the AI.
Link personas – Assign a persona to the design, making it clear who this screen is designed for and what their goals are.
Suddenly, your designs aren’t just static representations—they’re infused with meaning. The AI doesn’t just "see" a login page; it understands that this screen is part of an onboarding journey designed for first-time users who need extra guidance. It doesn’t just "process" a settings page; it knows this is a control hub for power users who want efficiency above all else.
A More Human Approach to AI-Powered Design
I used to struggle with the idea that AI could truly understand design. Design is human—it’s emotional, contextual, and deeply personal. But the more I worked on Figflow, the more I realized that AI isn’t here to replace human intuition; it’s here to amplify it.
Adding Insights isn’t about handing off your design decisions to an algorithm. It’s about making sure those decisions are honored, understood, and carried forward into development with the full depth of your expertise.
So next time you finish a design, take a moment. Step back. Ask yourself:
What story does this screen tell?
Who is it for?
How does it fit into the bigger picture?
And then, add your Insights. Because design isn’t just about how things look—it’s about how they work, who they serve, and the moments they create.
